Sun, surf, beach - repeat. But not without a skin check

Superb surf beaches, panoramic coastal views and a sunny climate are part of Newcastle’s charm. Yet extreme UV levels and outdoor living means Australia has some of the highest rates of skin cancer in the world. The good news? With a yearly skin check, you can detect skin cancer early—when there’s the best chance of treating and beating it.

At Newcastle skin cancer clinic, you’ll get a thorough head-to-toe skin check by a melanographer. Suspicious moles will be imaged and sent for further review and diagnosis by an accredited dermatologist. That’s two sets of expert eyes for complete peace of mind.

“At my annual full body skin exam, the melanographer found a small pin-sized spot on my ear and recommended I have it examined further. It turned out to be cancerous. If it wasn’t for MoleMap, it would have gone unnoticed.”

Your questions, answered

How much does a skin check cost at Newcastle MoleMap?

The price of a skin check at Newcastle skin cancer clinic will depend on the type of service you choose. At MoleMap Newcastle, our most comprehensive service is our Full Body MoleMap. This includes full body imaging, as well as proactive monitoring of 'at risk' moles.  We recommended this service for anyone with a medium to high risk of getting melanoma. For people at low risk or who have spotted a new or changing mole, we suggest having a SkinCheck (there's the option to have it with or without total body imaging). For more information on the pricing and what's included, visit our SkinCheck or Full Body MoleMap pages. Don’t know your skin cancer risk? Take our quick risk quiz to find out.

How much time should I allow for a skin check in Newcastle?

The length of appointment will depend on the skin check service you select.

Is it possible to have skin cancer without knowing?

Yes. Some skin cancers grow slowly. This means that they can go undetected for several years. Other skin cancers are more visible, assuming you regularly check your skin. A yearly mole check or skin check at Newcastle MoleMap will help detect skin cancer early—when it’s most treatable. A professional skin check can also pick up signs not visible to the naked eye.

How should I prepare for my MoleMap Newcastle skin check?

Before attending your appointment at Newcastle skin cancer clinic, we recommend doing a DIY skin check and noting any spots of concern. At your mole check appointment you’ll need to undress down to your underwear. We advise wearing clothing that can easily be removed for a thorough skin check. It’s best not to wear make-up and to avoid using self-tan or nail polish prior to your mole check. It may sound a little daunting. But rest assured, our friendly melanographers will help you feel comfortable throughout your appointment.
